• The tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis at the hand of police in that city triggered a cascade of anger and protests throughout the country over the last days of May and early June. Our fair city, Indianapolis, was the scene of peaceful protests downtown, that turned ugly and violent. Thank you to the people in these crowds that tried to keep the peace, and to those who have reached toward each other to find greater understanding that will lead to lasting change. Also, a big thanks needs to go out to the volunteers who went out to help businesses owners clean up and board up in the aftermath of the riots.
• It looks like the Irvington Halloween Festival is a go! The organizers of the 74th Annual Irvington Halloween Festival are now taking applications for vendors, have opened up the poster contest, and starting to schedule the events for the week of Oct. 24-31. Last year’s street fair got rained out for the first time in its history. Organizers are following guidance issued by the state and local authorities and will monitor changes between now and then. • As more businesses open for business, please continue to practice safe physical distancing, wear a mask in public, and wash your hands frequently. It is critically important for us to support local businesses that have been hit hard financially by closures, if we can. Even if you aren’t comfortable yet shopping or dining out inside or on a patio, businesses are still offering carry-out and delivery services. And if you are comfortable, remember to tip your servers well!
