• Englewood Christian Church’s 2nd Annual Ruth Bottoms Memorial Local History Luncheon will be held Thursday, Feb. 27 at noon at Englewood Christian Church, 57 N. Rural. • National Read Across America Day is Monday, March 2. This is also known as Dr. Seuss Day, and is perfect day for families to read together to encourage the reading habit.
• Five Indianapolis artists have been selected for a unique paid fellowship on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis to program and activate a new community arts space, the 10 East Arts Hub (“The HUB”) located at 3137 East 10th St. The selected artists are Ess McKee (Spring 2020), Eduardo Luna & Eve Eggleston (Summer 2020), and Micah and Shamira Wilson (Fall 2020).
• The City of Beech Grove will offer a paper shredding and appliance recycling event on Friday, March 7 from 9 a.m.-noon behind Beech Grove City Hall, 806 Main St. They can’t accept tube TVs. Assistance will be available, and you can witness your document shredding. This is a free service.
• Fans of Q Artistry — rejoice! Ben Asaykwee and his talented gang are presenting ZirkusGrimm 2020 at the Phoenix Theatre beginning March 13. Tickets go on sale Feb. 21 for this limited run of grim fairy tales under a tattered big top. Visit quartistry.org for tickets and more information.
• The latest kitchen gadgets are instant pots, convection ovens, and air fryers. Find out how to use these, and other newfangled appliances, on Friday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at the College Ave. Branch library, 4180 N. College Ave. The Marion County Public Health Dept. will be on hand to teach you how to use them to make healthy dishes. Samples will be provided.
• The Indy Winter Market is held every Saturday from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 Brookside Ave. For people with SNAP benefits, when you use your Hoosier Works card at the market, you can triple your SNAP values up to $20 per week with Eat Well tokens. The 3-1 SNAP benefit is funded by Near Eaststide Area Renewal (NEAR).
• Eskenazi Health is now accepting applications for its 2020 VolunTEEN Summer Program. The annual VolunTEEN program allows teenage students on a path to becoming health care professionals the opportunity to experience volunteerism in a health care environment. Teenagers 14 to 19 years old who are interested in a career in health care and are in good academic standing are invited to apply for the program.
