Applause!: Jan. 24-30

• “Embracing an Adult Faith,” a five-week series focusing on a book with the same name by Marcus J. Borg, will be held at Cumberland First Baptist Church, 116 S. • The Poets Laureate of Lawrence will host an open poetry reading on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 7 – 9 p.m. at The Theater at the Fort on Indy’s east side, 8920 Otis Ave. Bring new poems to share, or just come out to listen!
• Save the date: On Friday, Feb. 14 at 10:30 a.m. to Noon, City Market invites all couples to participate in a vow renewal at 11 a.m., officiated by Mayor Joe Hogsett. This fun event will have live music, Valentine’s card writing station, a decorative photo booth, and cupcakes from City Market merchant Simply Divine Cupcakes. This event is free and welcomes all. City Market is located at 222 E. Market St.
• Indianapolis Public Library will host their book sale at Library Services, 2450 N. Meridian on Friday, Jan. 24 from 5:30-7:30 (Friends of the Library Night), Saturday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30 from noon-7 p.m.,, and Friday, Jan. 31 from noon-7 p.m. (Half-Price Day). Used and new books, magazines, CDs, and much more will be available for sale. Proceeds go to support library programs and services.
• The grand opening of the new 10 East Arts Hub will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at 3137 E. 10th St. Drop by to see the new spaces that will be home to a new arts initiative on the east side.
• The last day to see Ft. Harrison State Park’s temporary display about the Battle of the Bulge is Friday, Jan. 24 from noon-4 p.m. at the Museum of 20th Century Warfare in building 701 in the Historic Camp Glenn area of the park. The park is located at 6000 N. Post Rd. in Lawrence. Cost is $7 per vehicle park entrance fee.
• Greenfield Parks and Recreation is holding open job interviews on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Patricia Elmore Center, 280 N. Apple St. You can also apply online at greenfieldin.org/employment/717-parks-employment
• The Beech Grove City Council Meeting for February will be held Monday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers, 802 Main St.
• Taylor Martin’s Indy Magic starts the year with “The Magic of Las Vegas” on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Indy Eleven Theatre, 719 E. St. Clair St. The show will feature Jim Keplinger, Dean Whitlock, and Barron Stringfellow, a spectacular line-up of magicians. Tickets are $15-$20 and available online at indyfringe.org. If you are a fan of magic, Indy Magic shows are some of the best in the Midwest.
