• The Adopt A Soldier program is gearing up to provide deployed service members with holiday greetings from citizens. To participate in the 2019 National Care Letter Campaign, mail your personal written and designed letter or greeting card to America’s Adopt A Soldier, 5400 Shawnee Road, Suite #300, Alexandria, Va. 22312. • Babies and toddlers up to age 2 with an adult are invited to an introduction to the concert harp and to explore connections between language and music on Monday, Nov. 18 at the East Washington branch at 10:30 a.m. Teaching artist and harpist Melissa Gallant will conduct the class. Registration is required for each child, and can be made by calling the library at 317-275-4360. The library is located at 2822 E. Washington St.
• Congratulations to Ressie Lemmon, a student at Fortville Elementary, who has advanced to the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta in April. She was the Regional Qualifier for the age group seven through nine. That’s a huge accomplishment!
• On Tuesday, November 19, the Warren Township Orchestras will present their Pops Concert at 7 p.m in the PAC, 9500 E. 16th St. The program will feature Warren Central’s Prelude, Intermezzo, Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestras, along with 8th grade orchestra students from Creston, Raymond Park, and Stonybrook. Tickets are $6 and may be purchased at www.warrenpac.org. Warren Township faculty admitted free with staff ID.
• Teachers Laura Bartolomeo at the Center for Inquiry School 70, and Megan Hayes at College Park Elementary both received funds for their innovative programs through the SONIC Limeades for Learning Fall Voting campaign. They join teachers across the U.S. who will receive funds for a variety of projects for public school children.
• Scecina Memorial High School’s theatre program will present “Peter and the Starcatcher” for two nights at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16 at Downey Avenue Christian Church. Tickets are $8 for adults; $5 for Scecina students; and free for grade-school children. Downey Avenue Christian Church is located at 111 S. Downey Ave. Parking is across from building. Enter in Door #3. Purchase tickets online at scecina.org/theatre or at the door.
• The Latinas Welding Guild is offering a unique workshop for 18 years or older on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 1-5 p.m. The Welding THEN Drinking: Bar Carts workshop allows you to learn the basics of welding and assembling bar carts to take home (or gift to someone). Tickets are $150 for a solo ticket (1 cart), or $200 for a crew of two to create one cart and includes the cost of all materials. The drinking portion of the program is after construction, and is limited to 21 and older participants. You must pre-register as space is limited through Eventbrite.
