INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Landmarks is looking for people who’d like to know Indianapolis in a deeper way and show it off to visitors as a volunteer tour guide. At a volunteer recruitment session on December 5, the nonprofit will offer information about leading tours of Indianapolis for school children, residents and visitors to the city, including convention groups.
Docents will receive training to lead a variety of walking tours including Historic Downtown and Capital City Critters tours for students, the Catacombs tours at the Indianapolis City Market, and Monument Circle tours. Volunteers can also lead walking tours of historic neighborhoods and tours of historic buildings not usually open to the public.
In addition to leading tours, Indiana Landmarks volunteers usher and assist with special events at Indiana Landmarks Center and volunteer at the organization’s office. At the recruiting session, guests will have quick conversations with veteran docents and staff about the variety of volunteer roles and what interests them.
Refreshments will be served at the event, held 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Ave. For more information on volunteering, call 317-822-7950 or register online for the recruitment session at https://recruitingvolunteers2019.eventbrite.com.
