Applause!: Sept. 13-19

• The city has named Fountain Square the Neighborhood of the Month for September. On Saturday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Fountain Square will host its 8th annual Art Squared event, including Masterpiece in a Day, Art Fair, and Art Parade.
• The Poets Laureate of Lawrence will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. from 7-9 p.m. The featured poet will be Manon Voice.
• Vandals damaged the IndyFringe Artful Piano which stands outside the District Theatre in the 600 block of Mass Ave. They are seeking donations to help repair it. Visit indyfringe.org to make a donation to get this interactive piece of art up and working again.
• Interested in knowing more about crime prevention and public safety? The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office is offering their 9th Annual Community Justice Academy, a four session program  that brings citizens into the process. The sessions begin Monday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Indianapolis Public Library Services Center, 2450 N. Meridian St. To register, visit www.eventbrite.com/e/community-justice-academy-2019-tickets. • USA Today recently named the corn maze at Conner Prairie as part of its 10 Best Readers’ Choice awards for Best Corn Maze.This year’s corn maze covers 12 acres, and the design is a witch on a broomstick, with bats flying and the 1859 Balloon. The maze has three paths for different abilities and ages. The maze opens Saturday, Sept. 21 and will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday until Oct. 27. Paid museum guests and members pay an activity fee of $5 per guest and $4 per member.
• Adults are invited to join gardener Barbara Fain to learn how to breed butterflies at the Spades Park branch of the library on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. Participants will have the opportunity to care for their own larva and will get a butterfly larva to hatch at home. The library is located at 1801 Nowland Ave.
• Fort Harrison State Park is hosting a Barbecue & Blues Fest at the park, 6000 N. Post Rd. on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 1-7 p.m. There will be lots of food catered by The Garrison, Wild Boar BBQ and Taste of Home, plus music all day long. The event is free with park gate admission of $7 per vehicle.
• Congratulations to eastsider Staci Terrell, who was recently named the manager of the InfoZone, the Library’s branch inside the Children’s Museum.
• On Sept. 8, 10 IMPD officers participated in the Run United Relay in Indianapolis, celebrating the historic 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics. The run was dedicated to the memory of IMPD Captain James Reno, who was very involved in Special Olympics Indiana. • The Indianapolis Children’s Choir will begin their 2019-20 season with “Songs of a New World: Together in Peace” on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3 and 7 p.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church, 609 E. 29th St. Visit www.icchoir.org for more information.
