Applause! Aug. 9-15

• Come on out and celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Central Ace Hardware on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be door prizes for the first 80 customers, food trucks, music, and family-friendly activities. Central Ace has been a huge supporter of the east side community over the years, so this is our chance to thank them for being a part of our neighborhood!
• The Irvington Farmer’s Market will be held Sunday, Aug. 11 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. There will be lots of produce vendors and local artisans in the park. Please come out and support local businesses!
• On Saturday, Aug. 17 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., the Franklin Township Historical Society will host a free Vintage Technology Show, featuring artifacts from the history of technology from 1850 through 1980. Check out the old radios, reel-to-reel tape players, antique typewriters and more. The show will be at Grace Church, 5605 S. Franklin Rd.
• Check out the Eastside Art Collective One Day Pop-Up Shop on Saturday, Aug. 17 from noon-4 p.m. at Frontdoor Home Design, 6101 E. Washington St. Local artists will be on hand, plus kids are welcome to interact with the artists to create their own masterpieces. Refreshments will be provided.
• The Broad Ripple Carnival will be held Aug. 8-11 at Broad Ripple Park, 1550 Broad Ripple Ave. Admission is free. Hours are 6-9 p.m. on Thurs., 5-9 p.m. on Fri., noon-9 p.m. on Sat., and noon-7 p.m. on Sun. There will be carnival rides, food and drink, a craft beer and wine garden, and a history exhibit featuring Broad Ripple High School memorabilia. Saturday will feature an artisan and vintage market. • Indiana officials recently signed a new tax law that exempts veteran’s benefits from state income taxes. The law was passed in hopes that veterans would remain in the state.
• Interested in a paid legislative internship position? Indiana State legislators are seeking interns for the 2020 sessions. These are full-time positions. Visit www.IndianaHouseRepublicans.com/internship or indianahousedemocrats.org for more information. Deadlines for applications are Oct. 31.
• One of the many services the Indianapolis Public Library offers is Job Centers in several area branches. This is a free service for unemployed or underemployed individuals to get help to enhance their skills. Check out the Job Center at the College Ave. branch on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 10 a.m., or the Warren Branch the same day at 12:30 p.m. or the Brightwood Branch at 1 p.m the same day.  Spades Park offers a Job Center on Friday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. and East 38th St branch is on Saturday, Aug. 17.
• Fridays at the Fort in Lawrence continues at the Civic Plaza on Friday, Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. The Mississippi Raglips and the River Dogs Rock and Blues Revue will be the musical guests, and there will be food trucks, beer tent, kids zone, and lots more. Meet at 9230 Memorial Park Dr. in Lawrence. Admission is free.
