Applause!: July 19-25

• The Auxiliary to Community Hospital East will sponsor a $5 Jewelry and Accessories Fundraising Sale on Tuesday, July 23, from 7–10 p.m.; Wednesday, July 24, 6:30 a.m.–9:00 p.m.; and Thursday, July 25, 6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at Community Hospital East Main Entrance. • The Benton House Book Sale is this weekend, July 19-21. Hours are Friday from 5-8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Hardbacks are $2, paperbacks at $1, and children’s books $1. You’ll also find great bargains on furnishings, collectibles, and much more. All proceeds go to the Benton House for maintenance and upkeep.
• Books, Booze & Brains is a science-themed book club that meets monthly at Ash & Elm Cidery, 2104 E. Washington St. The next meeting/discussion will be held on Tuesday, July 30 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and will be presented by Caitlin Fendley of Purdue, discussing Breaking the Chains of Gravity: The Story of Spaceflight before NASA by Amy Shira Teitel. It is free and open to the public (ages 21+). Drinks and snacks are available for purchase.
• Children ages 6-12 are invited to read and follow a recipe inspired by children’s story books or children’s cookbooks on Tuesday, July 23 at 4 p.m. at the Brightwood Branch of IndyPL. The Marion County Health Dept. will help with the chopping, blending, mixing and measuring.
• IndyGo is moving toward the September opening of the Red Line project that will link north and south Indianapolis. There will continue to be delays along College, Washington, Delaware, Capitol, Meridian, and Virginia Ave. If you want to stay up to date on the progress, visit www.indygored.com
• Civic Saturday will be held Saturday, July 20 from 11 a.m.-noon at Central Library, 6th floor. Coffee begins at 10:30 a.m. The topic will be “Optimism as Rebellion” and include discussions about those who have shaped America with their optimistic rebellions. The library is at 40 E. St. Clair. All are welcome and admission is free.
• The City-County Council recently approved a new Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district encompassing the Old Southside Historic District. The boundaries are South St. to the CSX railroad and Adler (north-south), and Madison Ave. to the White River (east-west). The city hopes that the TIF designation will encourage further redevelopment in the area.
• Join IMPD East District officers for a Coffee and Waters meet and greet on Tuesday, July 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Coal Yard Coffee, 5547 Bonna Ave. This is a friendly, casual gathering when citizens and police can chat, voice concerns, and ask questions.
•  The Hope Center will hold a Plant Sale and Movie Night Saturday, July 20 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. The Hope Center is located at 11850 Brookville Rd. In addition, their Greenhouse is now open to the public, located behind the boutique on the east side of the campus. Greenhouse hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays,  Fridays, and Saturdays (closed on Wed. &  Sun.).
