Applause!: July 12-18

• The public is invited to view and react to plans for the renovation of the Lawrence Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library during the second series of community engagement meetings on Wednesday, July 17 from 1 – 2 p.m. and again from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Branch, 7898 Hague Road. • Did you know that the Indianapolis Symphony plays a special concert just for us Eastsiders? Come on out to the Symphony on Tuesday, July 16 at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair St. at 7:30 p.m. to listen to a free concert. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket and the family to listen to Copland’s Outdoor Overture, Mendelssihn’s Hebrides Overture, music from The Barber of Seville, and the recently composed piece Starburst by Jessie Montgomery.
• The public is invited to join the Indiana War Memorials Foundation and the 74th USS Indianapolis CA-35 Survivors’ Reunion for a very special event beginning at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 19 at the Indiana War Memorial 55 East Michigan St. The event kicks off with a VIP reception. The commemorative event will include a luncheon, special tours of Indiana War Memorial USS Indianapolis exhibits and a special presentation of the PBS documentary USS Indianapolis: The Final Chapter. • The Garfield Park Biergarten is a once monthly event at the Sunken Gardens, thanks to the Original Swayzee Hand Breaded Tenderloin and Garfield Brewery. The next biergarten will be held Thursday, July 18 from 5:30-9:00 p.m. Visitors can enjoy live music, lawn games, and a chance to stroll through the historic Sunken Garden. Feel free to bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs. Admission is free. Children and leashed dogs are welcome. (Dogs will not be allowed inside the Conservatory.) The event will repeat August 15 and again on Sept. 19 during the same hours.
• The Irvington Garden Club will host its monthly farmer’s market on Sunday, July 14 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park on E. St. Clair. Lots of produce vendors, prepared food, local arts and crafts, and entertainment await.
• The Irving Circle concert series continues on Saturday, July 13 with Donn Smith at 7 p.m. This great gathering is hosted by Friends of Irving Circle and is free; refreshments are available for purchase. Meet at the Irving Circle (which will be closed to traffic before and during the concert) at Audubon and University. The Friends could always use more volunteers to keep the Circle tidy, so think about volunteering!
