• Seems like the IPL scammers are getting more aggressive, targeting businesses and individuals. The scam is to scare you into paying an “overdue” bill immediately over the phone. • Everyone is invited to the Central Library on E. St. Clair for Indy Bookfest 2019 on Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be an artist’s market, writer’s workshop, children’s activities, vendors, and registration for the Summer Reading Program and library cards. They will also celebrate Juneteenth with a Civil War reenactment.
• Summer Solstice will be on Friday, June 21 at 11:54 a.m. in Indianapolis. This marks the longest day of the year.
• The Indiana State Fair will feature 17 free concerts throughout the run of the fair, from August 2-18. Highlights include Ace Frehley (original KISS guitarist) on August 2, Melissa Etheridge on August 15, Everclear on August 16, Air Supply on August 5, and Boyz II Men on August 14. Advance discount tickets to the fair are $8 and available online at IndianaStateFair.com
• If you are looking for a fur-ever friend, the Indy Mega Adoption event will be held Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, 23 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, South Pavilion. Hours are 1-6 p.m. each day. Admission is free, but parking at the Fairgrounds is $8. Adoptable animals of all ages, sizes and breeds will be up for adoption, with fees beginning at $30 for a pet that is fixed, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. Pets will go home with their new owners the same day.
• The eastside will get all patriotic at the 3rd Annual Indypendence Day 4K race at Brookside Park on Thursday, July 4. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. For more information or to register, visit indYpendenceday4k. eventbrite.com
• Artist Lisa Boyles will be hosting a 2-D Art Show to benefit the Rivoli Park Labyrinth on First Friday, July 5 from 6-10 p.m. at Get Dirty Ceramics in the Murphy Building in Fountain Square, 1043 Virginia Ave. There will also be affordable art work for sale.
• Want to help out a neat group? The Alchemist’s Closet at the Psychic Fair will host a sale on Saturday, June 22 at 2201 E. 54th St. Proceeds will go to the Replace the Roof fund.
• There will be a World Refugee Day Reggae Party on Saturday, June 22 from 4-10 p.m. at the Cottage Home Community Space, 714 N. Highland Ave. Lots of great music, food, local beer and wine, and opportunities to engage with Exodus, an organization that helps refugees. The event is free, but donations are welcome. Proceeds from refreshment sales will help support refugee resettlement services in Indianapolis.
