IRVINGTON — The Irvington Community Chorale will host a free concert on Wednesday, May 22 from 7:00 p.m. at Linwood Christian Church, 4424 E. Michigan Street. Parking is in the rear. The concert features memorable show music of Broadway and the screen.
The Irvington Community Chorale was organized by Judy Aubrey in 1979. It’s mission was to provide an opportunity for adults to sing for fun. The Chorale was part of the Howe High School Evening Division at the beginning for many years and was under the direction of former Indianapolis Public Schools Music Consultant, Walter Shaw, followed the next year by long-time Tech High School Choir Director, William Moon. Except for one year in the 1980’s when the group was accompanied by Rose Longshore, the group has been accompanied by its current director/accompanist, Beth Aubrey Meyer, who began conducting the group in 1987. When Howe High School closed some years ago, some of the Irvington-area churches hosted the group and, for the past 20 years, the Chorale has rehearsed at Linwood Christian Church.
