INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) was recently awarded $1 million in project funding through a Next Level Roads: Community Crossings matching grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation. These funds will be used to construct DPW Project ST-19-073, a comprehensive improvement to selected neighborhood streets, sidewalks, curbs and ramps just west of the College Avenue corridor, generally between 38th Street and E Fall Creek Parkway N Drive.
While the project is still in the final stages of design, construction on Project ST-19-073 is expected to begin yet this summer, to be complete by the end of 2019.
Improvements will include the resurfacing of each street included in the project; this will include street base repair, the process of removing and improving up to 5 inches of asphalt. Construction will also bring up to standard all sidewalk panels, street curbs and ADA-accessible ramps identified as in need of improvement.
Another Community Crossings grant project is already underway. With funding awarded in October 2018, construction on the resurfacing of Southport Road, from Bluff Road to S. East Street will begin in April 2019.
The $1 million infusion will supplement the project’s estimated construction budget of more than $2 million.
