INDIANAPOLIS — Lighthouse East, located at 4002 N. Franklin Rd., which serves roughly 300 students in grades 7-12, announced that it will permanently close on June 7, the last day of the 2018-2019 school year. The Lighthouse South campus will remain open.
“We’ve tried for years to run a successful school in this community. We launched and relaunched, and we still haven’t been able to meet our own expectations and, most importantly, the needs of our families,” said Adam Collins, chair of the Lighthouse East board, which voted Thursday morning to close the school. Collins noted that enrollment at the East campus has been dwindling, and the school did not have the resources necessary to provide for its remaining students.
“We will work individually with all of our students to make sure they are able to find another school to attend, which is why we are making this announcement now. While we are saddened by this outcome, we know that our students deserve better than we’ve been able to provide,” Collins said.
There will be school fairs held at the school at 6 p.m. on April 11 and April 18 to help students find new options. Staff from Enroll Indy will be in the school building through the remainder of the year helping students. The next deadline for families to enroll using the Enroll Indy platform is April 30.
Families can find more information about the closing and their school options at LighthouseEastOptions.com or by email info@LighthouseEastOptions.com.
Lighthouse East began operations in 2007 as Monument Lighthouse Charter School and closed for one year in 2014 before seeking a new charter for the 2015 school year. Lighthouse South, located at 1780 Sloan Avenue, has operated continuously since it was chartered in 2009.
Lighthouse East will work with Circle City Prep, a K-5 school that also occupies the building, to potentially take over more space for the coming school year.
