Applause!: March 22-28

• Congratulations to the Indianapolis Animal Care Services, who recently received a generous donation of $10,000 to help pay for heartworm treatments, training, and enrichment supplies. Plants for Pets and Aquatic Arts are long-standing supporters of the IACS.
• Keep Indianapolis Beautiful is seeking volunteers for several clean-ups in Indy now that the warm weather looks like it wants to stick around for a while. There are several slated for the east side. Visit www.kibi.org/projects for details.
• Look for Red Line construction at 38th and College Ave., and along North College Ave. after March 25. Shelby St. will be closed for up to 4 hours just north of Southern Ave. on April 1 to allow crews to set steel at the Garfield Park stations. A short section of Virginia Ave. will be closed for a week just south of New Jersey and another section just north of Woodlawn Ave. They will maintain access to residences and businesses as work continues.
• Join Q Artistry for auditions on Monday March 25 at 6:30 and Tuesday, March 26 at 6:30 to be a part of Perry Haughter and the Magical Musical!  Kids ages 5 and up and adults of all ages are encouraged to put their best magical foot forward as there are over 40 roles up for grabs; including Perry Haughter, Germione Stranger, Don Geasely, Professor Bumbledor, Lord Moldywart, Furious Slacks, SO MANY Home Elves and much more! Auditions will be at Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. Be prepared to sing and act by preparing a song and a short one-minute comic monologue, a half-minute reading from one of the books or a story joke. • The Poets Laureate of Lawrence will honor poet Mary Oliver on March 26 from 7-9 p.m. at the Theatre at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. Open mic readers are encouraged to bring a favorite Oliver poem, or poems inspired by Oliver’s work.
• There will be a Transit Social on March 27 from 6-8 p.m. at Square Cat Vinyl, 1054 Virginia Ave. Drop by for a beverage and celebrate transit in the city, learn about the Red Line and plans to expand the transit network. There will be free swag as well, while supplies last.
• On select Saturday nights, Garfield Park is hosting Family Art Night. On April 13, learn how to make egg candles from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Fee is $5 and includes materials. To register for this event, visit apm.activecommunities.com/indyparks
• Irvington will be hopping on April 13 from noon-5 p.m. at the Easter on the Pennsy Art and Yoga Community Gathering along the Pennsy Trail. There will be a sidewalk chalk art competition for the kids at noon in the Coal Yard parking lot on Bonna, an arts market at the new Red Barn Arts Collective lawn (facing the Pennsy), an Easter Egg hunt at 4 p.m. at the Red Barn Arts collective and much more. Admission is free.
