• IndyFringe Theatres have a powerhouse line-up of shows for March, including the 150th Magic Show for Taylor Martin, featuring magicians Jim Keplinger, Daniel Lee, and the Amazing Barry on March 5 at 7 p.m. Tickets are only $20 for adults, or $15 for seniors or students. • There will be a meet-and-greet for the new East District Commander, Craig E. McCartt on Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m. at the CAFE headquarters, 8902 E. 38th St.
• Congratulations to the Warren Central band and orchestra students who competed Saturday at ISSMA State Solo & Ensemble Competition. Junior Melody Gray earned a Gold Rating for her violin solo, and Matthew Carlisle (12-alto sax) and Ilaina Razo (11-French horn) earned Silver Ratings. All three ensembles received Gold Ratings, including a flute quartet (Sara Burton, Lee Hernandez, Lizzy Hunter, Karli Valencia), saxophone quartet (Matthew Carlisle, Daniel Dorsey, Derek Holt, Noa Schroeder), and large string ensemble. The flute quartet and string ensemble earned Gold Ratings With Distinction.
• First Friday in Indianapolis celebrates spring and beginnings. The ArtMixx headquarters in the Harrison Center, 1505 N. Delaware St., will feature inclusive creativity to kick off Disability Awareness Month. Also at the Harrison, Justin Vining will be the featured artist with his show “Against the Grain.” Circle City Industrial Complex at 1125 Brookside Ave. will feature several artists on Friday, March 1 from 6-9 p.m. and on +Saturday, March 2 from noon-4 p.m. The CCIC open house on Saturday overlaps the Winter Market at the very end of the complex. Irvington’s Hampton Designs Studio and Shop, 5515 E. Washington St., will host music by father and son duo Draken plus artists and more. Stop by this Irvie-award winning shop!
• On March 15 at 7 p.m., Cumberland First Baptist Church will host a showing of the film Anthropocene, about the “new geological age” affected by man. It is a discussion by the Working Group of international scientists of the issues at stake, including climate change. The church is located at 116 S. Muessing Rd. in Cumberland.
