• There will be a Town Hall meeting for Warren Township on Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 6-8 p.m. with Vernon A. Brown, Trustee, at the Warren Township Government Center, 501 N. Post Rd. Topics for discussion will be neighborhood crime, infrastructure, and trash. District 14 City-County Councillor La Keisha Jackson, Public Health and Safety Driector Paul Babcock, IMPD Chief Bryan Roach, and Dept. of Public Works Director Daniel Parker will be on hand.
• The Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees has appointed Fiona Duke as Manager of the Southport Branch, 2630 E. Stop 11 Road. A 15-year employee of IndyPL, Duke served as Interim Manager of the Southport Branch since last November and, prior to that, as Supervising Librarian at the branch.
• The Irvington Historical Society will host an opening reception for the Warren Central Photographer’s Club on Saturday, March 9 from 6-9 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Ave. Admission is free.
• Feel like trying something different on First Friday? Check out Theatre at the Fort’s First Friday Swing Dance on Friday, March 1 at 8 p.m. on Otis Ave. in Lawrence. Dancers of all ages are welcome to enjoy the sounds of the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra playing swing/Big Band music. Attendance is limited to 200 guests, and tickets are $10 ($12 for a one hour dance lesson beforehand). There is a wine/beer cash bar, and hours of fun to be had. • The Irving Theatre hosts an Acoustic Open Mic on Monday, Feb. 25 from 6-10 p.m. You never know who’ll show up to jam onstage at the historic theatre, 5505 E. Washington. Come listen to all original music performed by local and regional musicians. Admission is free.
• The Lawrence Branch Library, 7898 N. Hague Rd. is hosting the ABCs of Diabetes program on Mondays, March 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The program is free of charge, but registration is required by calling the Marion County Public Health Department at 317-221-2094. Participants will learn about eating healthier, increasing activity, taking medications, and preventing complications. Those with diabetes, pre-diabetes, and support people are welcome.
• Eskenazi Health recently received a $10,000 Huggies No Baby Unhugged Hospital Hugging Grant, which will allow the program to be expanded. Volunteers hold, rock, and sing to comfort babies in the Eskenazi Health Neonatal Intensive Care. Volunteers must be 18 years old, non-smokers, and complete the full volunteer onboarding process. • Congratulations to Si Hager of Herron High School, who won the Poetry Ourselves competition at the Poetry Out Loud event. Si’s original poem, “Dental Dreams” won top honors in the category Saturday, Feb. 16. Madalyn Pedigo of Campbellsburg was selected as champion, and will represent Indiana in the national competition in Washington, D.C. April 30 and May 1.
