• The Big Dig tearing up Brookside Parkway east of Rural St. will shift around in the upcoming weeks. The work at Tecumseh/Nowland, and Jefferson/Brookside and Coyner will be completed soon. Work at Keystone/Brookside will start in mid-February and continue through April, while work at Temple/Brookside should start shortly and continue through June. Work at Brookside Park should be completed by September.
• Irvington Community Schools will host Information Night and School Tours on Thursday, Feb. 28 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. This is a chance to meet school leaders and faculty members at the three campuses. There will be a shuttle between the schools that evening. Drop in at the Elementary School, 6705 E. Julian Ave., the Middle School, 6040 E. Pleasant Run Parkway S. Dr., or the Preparatory Academy, 5751 E. University Ave.
• Neighborhood meetings are a great way to get involved in your community. Upcoming meetings are: Spades Park on Monday, Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Spades Park Library (1801 Nowland Ave.), and Little Flower on Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church & School (4720 E 13th St.).
• Registration is open for the Make Your Own Pysanky egg workshop on March 23 or 24 at 1 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Ave. The fee is $15 per person, for an afternoon of fun. • Congratulations to Black Acre Brewing Company for their 7th Anniversary! They will be having an anniversary party Feb. 18-Feb. 23 with special releases at the pub located at 5632 E. Washington St. and the big party on Feb. 23 beginning at noon.
• The Children’s Museum is offering free admission on Monday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The museum will be offering all sorts of special events until 3 p.m., including an appearance by Pres. Abe Lincoln. The museum is located at 3000 N. Meridian St.
• The Poets Laureate of Lawrence will be held Thursday, Feb. 26 from 7 – 9 p.m. at The Theater at the Fort on Indy’s east side, 8920 Otis Avenue, Lawrence. This month’s featured poet is Mary Sexson, author of several books of poetry.
• Mayor Joe Hogsett recently appointed John E. Hall as executive director of the Indianapolis Housing Project. He brings a lot of experience in affordable housing issues in previous positions with HUD.
• Residents are encouraged to attend an upcoming Red Line open house on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Indianapolis Art Center, 820 E. 67th St. to get updates on progress on the Red Line, construction timelines, and much more. Currently, street parking on College is restricting between 38th and 66th streets to allow construction crews to install utility lines, drainage, curbs, and more.
• The Sugar Creek branch of the Hancock County Public Library opened on Feb. 11. Located at 5731 US 52, it is twice the size of the previous location.
