Applause!: Feb. 1-7

• Congratulations to Terri Skipper, who was recently selected as the Riley Area Development Corporation’s new Executive Director. She was the Economic Director for the International Place Coalition.
• Members of Warren Central’s chapter of Tri-M Music Honor Society recently participated in the National Tri-M Day of Service by volunteering at Wheeler Mission Ministries. Some students served lunch at the Wheeler Men’s Mission, and others performed music in small groups at the Wheeler Center for Women & Children.
• The Horizon League Council has selected Indianapolis to host the 2020-22 Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships. Indianapolis will play host to the semifinals and championships games. The dates and bracket for the entire 2020 Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship will be released at a later date.
• The Indianapolis City Market’s Sharing the Love event will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 14. Married couples have the opportunity to revisit and celebrate their wedding vows during a special vow renewal ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. The ceremony will be officiated by Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. The event will feature live music as well as cupcakes from City Market merchant Simply Divine Cupcakes. The event is free and open to the public. Indianapolis City Market is located at 222 E. Market St.
• Genealogy Research Assistance will be offered at the Beech Grove Branch library, 1102 Main St., on Feb. 11 from 2 – 5 p.m. and Feb. 25 from 4 – 7 p.m. Adults are invited for a free session with representatives from the Samuel Bryan Chapter of the D.A.R. who will provide assistance with genealogy research using Ancestry.com and other online sources. This program will be held in the Library’s Technology Room. Each session has a limit of 10 participants. Call 317-275-4560 to register.
• The 500 Festival unveiled the theme for the 2019 IPL 500 Festival Parade: Your Tradition is Waiting in our own Brickyard. The parade will be held on Saturday, May 25 before the running of the Indianapolis 500.
• Arts for Lawrence is hosting some terrific shows in February, including Magic in Motion featuring Jamahl Keyes on Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Theatre at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. This is a night of comedy and magic with an award-winning magician.
