• Frederick Douglass Park family center has undergone a major renovation, thanks to the Citizens Energy Group’s Sharing the Dream multi-day service project. They opened on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to give everyone a peek at what’s been going on. The park is located at 1616 E. 25th St.

• Etchings Press, the University of Indianapolis student-run publisher, has announced the recipients of the 2018 Whirling Prize. They are Christine Stewart-Nunez for her poetry collection “Bluewords Greening,” and Mira T. Lee for her novel “Everything Here is Beautiful.” The winners receive a $500 honorarium and 25 copies of a letterpress broadside designed by student artists of UIndy’s Hullabaloo Press. • The Warren Branch library will host Keep Warm With Soups: Cooking Workshop on Wed., Jan. 30 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Adults are invited for a cultural food workshop to learn how to make soups and stews from around the world. • The Near Eastside Neighborhood Summit is slated for Tues., Feb. 5 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the John Boner Neighborhood Center, 2236 E. 10th St. The meeting will focus on pitches created by the Indy East Art Peace Team. Everyone is welcome to attend.
• The East Side Marketspace, a new farmers market, is open on Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m. at the Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 E. Brookside Ave., in the southwest corner.
