INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Joe Hogsett announced that the Warren Central Warriors and the surrounding community will be the city’s ‘Neighborhood of the Month’ for January 2019. The ‘Neighborhood of the Month’ program highlights Indianapolis neighborhood initiatives, works to engage community groups and promotes projects by City departments.
Located on the far east side of Indianapolis between Mitthoefer and Post roads, and 21st and 16th streets, Warren Central High School’s athletic and academic departments have had an unprecedented season this school year. Making history, Warren Central is the first-ever Indiana school to have undefeated, state championship seasons in boys’ basketball and football in the same calendar year; the Warriors’ girls’ basketball team is also the reigning state champion. Many other students have competed on the local, regional, national and international stages in their respective specialties and have won championships, first or second place finishes and/or thousands of dollars in scholarships.
Behind every great school is a supportive community. The residents on the far east side have rallied behind these students in their season of victory. Community members have attended home and away games and academic competitions to show their steadfast support of each student’s quest for an extraordinary school year.
Councillor David Ray represents the area.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to use the hashtag #IndyNoM when posting on social media about the Warren Central Warriors. To nominate your neighborhood for Neighborhood of the Month and to see the total list of Warren Central High School’s achievements, visit: http://indy.gov/NoM.
