BEECH GROVE — Matt English, Beech Grove’s athletic director and basketball coach, passed away Dec. 10 after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
English was hired in 2008 as a high school teacher, and was named athletic director in 2012, around the time he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Despite his illness, English remained active with the athletic program, offering encouragement and kindness. In September of this year, the Beech Grove School Board voted to name the high school basketball court in Matt’s honor.
English leaves behind his wife Angela, who is treasurer of Hornet Park Elementary School, and a daughter, Addison.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
