• Veteran’s Day events include the Veteran’s Day Service at Indiana War Memorial downtown at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Flanner & Buchanan Veteran’s Day Parade kicking off at Michigan and Pennsylvania streets. This year’s Veteran’s Day marks the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I, the war that was thought to end all wars. Thank a veteran and a veteran’s family (they serve, too) for all that we have and hold dear.
• The Christian Park 6th Annual Santa’s Elves Project has begun, collecting toiletries for the less fortunate. Donations of toilet paper, body wash, soap, face cloths, shampoo, etc. will be accepted at the Christian Park Family Center, 4200 English Ave., until Dec. 21. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. They will also like donations of warm socks and gloves.
• Carol Sissom, author of The LaSalle Street Murders: The Twist, will be at the Irvington Library on Tues., Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. for a booksigning and a discussion of her trilogy about the infamous eastside murders. Three of her self-published titles will be available for purchase. The library is at 5625 E. Washington St.
• The American 3.14 Mural Revitalization at 9th and Kealing is complete and looks great! Artist Ezi Underwood created and installed the images and backgrounds to revitalize this corridor on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis. A crew from Teen Works was a significant part of the creation and installation process, and many local businesses and individuals contributed to the cause along the way.
• The IRT will host Scrooge Gives Back on Nov. 16 from 3 – 6:30 p.m. at 140 W. Washington St. The community is invited to donate to the Indiana Blood Center, IndyHumane, and The Salvation Army as they collect their most needed items this holiday season. Donors will receive one free ticket to select November A Christmas Carol performances, and can purchase up to four additional tickets at 25 percent off. To receive this offer, donors must give blood to Indiana Blood Center, or donate items for IndyHumane and The Salvation Army with a recommended donation value (or monetary gift) of $25. • East District Task Force will hold its final meeting of the year on Wed., Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. at East District Headquarters, 201 N. Shadeland Ave. Commander Spurgeon will be giving an update on the district. These meetings are free and open to the public.
