• The last Irvington Farmer’s Market of 2018 will be held Sun., Oct. 14 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. Live music, dozens of produce and crafts vendors, and everyone on the east side will be there to celebrate autumn!
• East Tenth United Methodist Church will hold a Fall Festival on Sun., Oct. 14 from noon-1:30 p.m. The church is located at 2327 E. 10th St. and will offer lots of fun, with a petting zoo, pumpkin painting, football toss, lollipop tree, and lots more. Live music is available for your entertainment, plus a picnic lunch of hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, chips, cookies, and drinks.
• Start your Halloween hauntings early with the puppet show “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” on Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Irvington Lodge, 5515 E. Washington St. Tickets are $8 per person (children under 2 free). Put on by Steven’s Puppet Shows. Tickets are available online at Eventbrite.com.
• The Irvington Garden Club needs volunteers for their daffodil planting Oct. 13 beginning at 9:30 a.m. They are planting 2,000 daffodils along Pleasant Run Parkway. Bring a shovel and trowel and meet them at the triangle at N. Pleasant Run Pkwy, between Bolton and Graham. Call 317-353-1883 to let them know you are coming.

• The Department of Justice has awarded a grant of almost $1 million to the IndyEast Promise Zone over the next three years for crime programs.
• Marion County trick-or-treat hours will be Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Beech Grove from 5 to 8 p.m.
• ‘Tis the season for unscrupulous people to dump trash in our neighborhoods. This seems to happen on dead-end streets and in the woods around the waterways, like Pogue’s Run and Pleasant Run. Please report illegal dumping to the Mayor’s Action Center online or by calling 317-327-4622.
• Electric scooters are all over the city it seems, but remember that their use is not allowed on sidewalks or on the trails. The scooters can be used in bike lanes on the street, and on the street itself. Scooter riders must obey all stop signs and lights, just like cyclists. Drivers should be on the lookout for scooter riders on the street.
• Al and Rhonda Hunter, plus their fabulous team, are putting on a show to benefit the Weekly View on Sat., Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Irving Theatre, 5500 E. Washington St. Several media stars will read dramatic excerpts from testimony, depositions, and witness statements related to crimes committed in Irvington. Admission is free, but a $5 donation is requested. This should be a fascinating afternoon of historic eyewitness accounts. Come on out and hear some truly scary stories!
