Indy Do Day Celebrates 5th Anniversary

INDIANAPOLIS — The largest volunteer event in Indianapolis is Indy Do Day, which will be held September 27, 28, and 29. The day(s) bring together people from all over to help neighbors and neighborhoods.
The Rotary Club of Indianapolis presents this year’s Indy Do Day, which is a successful project to get companies and individuals involved in creating an active and engaged community committed to making real, positive change. Companies and organizations are welcome to help give back to the community with a day of service, or to offer resources and services to nonprofits in the community. Individuals can also volunteer to help with local projects. It is a great way to meet new people and help improve the city. About 30,000 people volunteer throughout Central Indiana on Indy Do Day.Indy-Do-Day-logo
In past years, Indy Do Day volunteers helped out at the Indianapolis Zoo, built projects for Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity, participated in the Paramount School of Excellence TURN Festival, picked up litter along many streets and roads, assisted with the food bank at Gleaner’s, worked on home maintenance projects for senior homeowners on the south side, and much more.
Some of the registered projects for the Indy Do Day that need volunteers are a property clean-up at accessABILITY at on East Washington St., helping out at the Assistance League of Indianapolis on the east side, working at Auntie Mame’s CDC Community garden, a clean-up at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, building gardens at Temple Gardens, beautifying North District’s headquarters on E. 30th St., serving meals at Wheeler Mission locations, helping neighbors on the southside with yard work through Concord Neighborhood Center, projects at New Hope of Indiana, the Indy Women’s Half Marathon, volunteering with Indianapolis Animal Care Services, a plogging clean-up at 414 Dorman St., and working with Coburn Place.
Volunteers can help in a variety of ways: providing willing hands and hearts for clean-ups and helping at animal clinics, and sorting and packing care packages for the less fortunate. There are lots of projects listed on the Web site, and volunteers are needed with tasks large and small.
