A new event that is part of the Irvington Halloween Festival is the Indy Grimo Coffin Race that will be held Oct. 27 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the festival itself. • IMPD East District offers an ALERRT Active Shooter course for churches, schools, businesses, and community groups. The course is about 90 minutes long, covering best practices in case of an active shooter situation. • Upcoming neighborhood meetings include: Spades Park on Mon., Sept. 17 from 6-8 at the Spades Park Library (1801 Nowland Ave.), Little Flower on Tues., Sept. 18 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church (4720 E. 13th St.), Otterbein on Thurs., Sept. 20 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Otterbein UMC (5009 E. 21st St.)
• The Irvington Community Led Improvement Coalition (I-CLIC) will hold a series of public conversations about the future of Irvington. One of the main items up for discussion is how to fund projects and services, possibly through an Economic Improvement District (EID). To find out more, the next meeting will be on Thurs., Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Irvington Presbyterian Church, 55 Johnson Ave. Other upcoming meetings will be at the same time on Mon., Sept. 24 at Irvington UMC, 30 N. • Join Braeburn Village and East District IMPD for a bike ride around Braeburn on Wed., Sept. 26 from 4-5 p.m. Meet at the office and start the tour. Snacks provided. Braeburn Village is located on 21st St. just east of Franklin Rd.
• The annual Fountain Square Art Fair will be held Sat., Sept. 15 as part of the Art Squared day. Masterpiece in a Day and the Art Parade are also part of an all-day event at 1104 Shelby St. in the hoppin’ Fountain Square Cultural District. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. and run to 6 p.m., capped off by the parade at 5 p.m. If you are looking for eclectic and alternative art from emerging artists, this is the place.
• If your travel plans include visiting Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean or Bermuda anytime soon, then you will need a passport. To make obtaining a new passport or renewing your old one an easy and convenient experience, a few Post Offices will host a Passport Day on Sat., Sept. 15. Indianapolis locations that will participate include the Eastgate and Oaklandon branches.
• The Near Eastside Neighborhood Summit will be held Sat., Sept. 15 from 8:30 a.m.-noon at Thomas Gregg Neighborhood School, 2302 E. Michigan St. There will be a discussion of the Quality of Life Plan for the near eastside, among other topics.
