Arlington Woods Neighborhood of the Month

INDIANAPOLIS — Arlington Woods will be the City’s Neighborhood of the Month for August 2018. The Neighborhood of the Month initiative highlights an Indianapolis community each month, working to engage local groups and promote projects by various City departments.
Nestled between Martindale-Brightwood and the Far Eastside, Arlington Woods features affordable homes in a tightly-knit community. The Arlington Woods Neighborhood Association, a community-led group, is working to build up Arlington Woods through advocacy and resident engagement. Progress in the area has also been advanced by the ROCK (Renewing Our Community for the Kingdom) Initiative, led by Eastern Star Church and neighborhood residents.
The Arlington Woods Neighborhood Association is a major fixture of the community — bringing neighbors together to improve the neighborhood and strengthen the community. The Association also brings guest speakers to the area through neighborhood meetings and helps to connect residents with community events and critical resources.
The ROCK Initiative is a plan aimed at improving quality of life in Arlington Woods by strengthening the neighborhood’s sense of community, developing affordable housing, growing financial security, and improving education. Eastern Star Church and Arlington Woods residents are currently working to revitalize abandoned homes and finalize the construction of a new center for community services which will hold 25 affordable housing units, which come in addition to the five brand new homes that have been constructed in the last year.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to use the hashtag #IndyNoM when posting on social media about Arlington Woods. To nominate your neighborhood for Neighborhood of the Month, visit indy.gov/NoM.
