INDIANAPOLIS — The Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, an Indianapolis philanthropy, has created a grant program, Prevention Matters, to implement substance abuse prevention programs in school districts. Recently, they announced the award of about $10.2 million in grants to Marion County schools, with $7.5 million earmarked for implementing plans. The program will reach over 71,000 children and teenagers, or about 44 percent of all county students.
The largest recipient will be IPS Schools, which will use over $1.5 million on evidence-based substance abuse prevention programs. Other local school districts that have been awarded grants include:

• Cathedral High School
• Franklin Township Community School Corp.
• Independence Academy
• KIPP Indy Public Schools
• Lighthouse Academies
• MSD of Lawrence Twp.
• Perry Twp. Schools
• Purdue Polytechnic HS
• Scecina HS
• Thomas Gregg Neighborhood School
