Irvington Ice Cream Social Aug. 5

IRVINGTON — The Irvington Historical Society’s 54th annual Ice Cream Social will take place Sun., Aug. 5 from noon to 4 p.m. in front of the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Ave. Admission to enjoy the festivities will be free. Cake, ice cream, and other food can be bought with tickets purchased at the event. All proceeds go to support the Irvington Historical Society and Bona Thompson Center. Downey Ave. will be closed to through traffic for a couple of blocks in front of the building.
This year, the Ice Cream Social will be sponsored by Core Redevelopment, which is renovating The Missions Building at 222 S. Downey. They will provide tours of the newly renovated units during the Social.
Sundaes Homemade Ice Cream will supply the ice cream and lemon sorbet (a non-dairy option). The local ice cream company provides The Mug and The Legend with their ice cream. Irvington-based Simply Divine Cupcakes will once again supply their decadent cupcakes. Beach Bum Barbecue, which got their start in Irvington, will supply saucy goodness.
Watch for The Black Hat Society witches, who will be flying in on their bicycles to help serve ice cream. They will also have a booth on the front lawn with vintage kids activities like hop-scotch, hula hooping & ring toss. Also there will be an opportunity to get selfies with the witches.
Visitors can enjoy the sounds of traditional Dixieland Jazz from White River Jazz Band while they enjoy treats. In addition, there will be vendors selling local arts and crafts. Be sure to check out the Bona Thompson Memorial Center exhibits, which will be open to the public. They will be selling some items from the East Side Fire Museum firefighting memorabilia.
This is a family-friendly event. Dogs are welcome as long as they are well-mannered and on a leash.
