INDIANAPOLIS — Nonprofit arts organization Heartland Film, Inc. recently announced the film lineup for the upcoming Indy Shorts International Film Festival (Indy Shorts), Indianapolis’s first ever short film festival and an Academy Award-qualifying event. The festival is expected to be one of the largest of its kind in the Midwest and will exclusively feature films less than 40 minutes in length. Indy Shorts will be at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields on July 26-29.
Of notable significance are the Indiana Spotlight short films, which showcase talented directors from the Hoosier state. To qualify for this category, the films must have either a director or producer with former/current Indiana residency and/or the majority of the film must have been shot in Indiana.

Among the featured Indiana Spotlight shorts are “Milktooth: A Fine Diner,” a short profile documentary film on the globally recognized restaurant, Milktooth in Fountain Square. Making its world premiere will be “Reversal,” a documentary short about Ian Pomfret, a mixed martial artist from New Palestine, Ind., who refuses to allow his past to define him. In a U.S. premier, “Queens Inside,” a documentary about Talbott Street theatre, where everyone is welcome, will be shown. The theater was home to artists and bohemians in the 1960s, and it has been a gathering place for the gay and drag community since the early 1980s.
Also on the list is “Momentum,” about soapbox racing in the city that teaches kids about commitment and responsibility. The film follows two of the racers and the mentors that help them along the way.
