• And now a word from us: The three of us (Judy, Paula and Ethel) own the Weekly View (Lola the Office Manager owns us). We are very fortunate that we have a solid crew of carriers, columnists, and advertisers who support this weekly paper in countless ways. We also have thousands of loyal readers who pick us up every week who believe the information we provide is important. Thank you to all of you!
As many know, the newspaper business is having a tough time right now. We were informed last year that our printing costs were going up due to increased paper costs to our printer. It was a small increase, and we have not increased our ad prices. It’s been tough, but we’re resourceful. However, we have been informed that our printer will be facing a very steep newsprint price hike in the next month or so due to a proposed tariff on Canadian newsprint, and they will have to pass some of the cost to us. While the proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum and other things get a lot of coverage on the national news, not much has been said about this tariff. The newsprint tariff will hit community newspapers, local dailies, magazines, and book publishers hard. Again, we are resourceful and are trying our darnedest to make sure we’ll be here for our readers. If you’d like to help us out, call your Congress person at 202-225-3121 and ask them to vote to stop the newsprint tariffs. You can also help us out by putting your garage sale, rental, and other classified ads in our paper (see page 7 for deadlines and prices). In addition, we gratefully accept donations.
Thank you for reading the Weekly View!
