• Hoping for spring, still? Get inspired with the Gardening Program Series at Beech Grove Library, April 16 at 1 p.m. The topic of this program is “Pollinators.” Learn about the who, what, where and why of pollinators and how to help save them. This program is presented by Holly Faust of the Indiana Native Plant and Wildflower Society (INPAWS). The Beech Grove Branch is located at 1102 Main St.
• Arlington Community School Seniors Lesley Howard and Bernard Spencer, and junior Kelly Gabino competed at the Innovate WithIN Pitch Competition state finals April 9 at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis. They were competing against eight other high school entrepreneur student teams from across the state for a prize package worth up to $100,000. Each student or student team pitched their ideas to an expert panel. This team’s idea, “Guard Me Gear,” is an e-commerce company selling athletic and leisure apparel.
• There will be a free youth job hiring and resource fair on April 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the Turning Point Family Worship Center, 4501 N. Post Rd. Register in advance at pathwayindy.org or call 317-890-9817. Participants are asking to dress in business attire and bring a resume, if available.
• There will be a showing of “Bidder 70,” a film offered by Eastside Creation Care Network, on April 20 from 7-9:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 5333 E. Washington St. in Bernadette Hall. The film is about an individual who tries to stop large corporations from drilling in some of our national parks.
• Covanta Indianapolis, IMPD and Drug Free Marion County have teamed up to provide a drug take-back booth during the Earth Day Indiana Festival April 21 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Military Park at White River State Park. The medications will be converted into clean, renewable energy at a local Energy-from-Waste facility. They will accept prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, drug samples, pet medications, ointments, lotions and liquid medications in glass or leak-proof containers. Do not bring loose pills, needles, thermometers, bloody or infectious waste, hydrogen peroxide, or aerosol cans.
• The Irvington Community Advocacy Network (ICAN), a coalition of community organizations, is hosting the first ever relay bike race around Audubon North Circle to raise funds for the many services they provide for needy neighbors. On Sat., May 12 teams of cyclists will race 100 laps to the exciting finish. Activities, including an all-ages bike decorating, start at 9 a.m. with the race running from 10 a.m.- to 1 p.m. To enter a team, sponsor a racer, or just for more information, go to www. icanirv.org.
