INDIANAPOLIS — In honor of National Stop the Bleed Day, Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS), the Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center at Eskenazi Health and the Indianapolis Office of Public Health and Safety are partnering to host a series of events to teach bleeding control techniques and how to assist others who may experience a traumatic bleeding injury, including how to apply pressure to bleeding wounds and how to apply a tourniquet.
In April, the Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center will host four Stop the Bleed classes at the Sandra Eskenazi Outpatient Care Center, located at the Eskenazi Health downtown campus. The classes will be held on April 10, 18, 25 and 28. Admission is free, but registration is required. Stop the Bleed is a national campaign launched by the White House in 2015 and is intended to bring bleeding control awareness and education to communities, teaching bystanders how to properly control bleeding on a traumatically injured person while waiting for first responders.
