INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Joe Hogsett recently announced that Bates-Hendricks will be the City’s Neighborhood of the Month for March, 2018. The Neighborhood of the Month initiative highlights an Indianapolis community each month, working to engage local groups and promote projects by various City departments.
Located just south of Downtown, Bates-Hendricks is a growing neighborhood that is quickly becoming an ideal destination for Indianapolis homeowners. Founded in the early 1800s, the neighborhood’s moniker pays homage to the Bates-Hendricks estate, which is listed on the national register of historic places. Tours of the home are available by appointment.
This month, Bates-Hendricks is being highlighted for their March 24th tree planting with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. As the “It’s My City” initiative enters the “Year of Green,” efforts such as this are critical to achieving the vision of a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Indianapolis.
In addition to its rich historical significance, the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood has shown a commitment to caring for members of their community. Local businesses, such as Lincoln Lane Coffee Co., serve as cornerstones of the community, acting as a communal meeting place for the neighborhood and providing resources for residents in need of assistance. The people of Bates-Hendricks are dedicated to the well-being of their fellow residents, exemplifying neighborliness and stewardship.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to use the hashtag #IndyNoM when posting on social media about Bates-Hendricks during the month of March. To nominate your neighborhood for Neighborhood of the Month visit: http://indy.gov/NoM.
