• Join Arts for Lawrence at the Sterrett Center, 8950 Otis Ave.) for their first Toast the Arts of the year Feb. 1 from 5-7 p.m.. • Cumberland FBC will hold a very special event marking the lunar eclipse and Super Blue Moon on Jan. 31 — an event that hasn’t happened in over 150 years. From 6-8 p.m. there will be a labyrinth walk in meditation to renew and reflect on the New Year. The church will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. so people can come and stay as short or as long as they need. Warm beverages will be available. There will also be meditation and prayer space inside. Cumberland FBC is located at 116 S. Muessing St. in Cumberland. All are welcome.
• Buck Creek Playhouse will hold open auditions for their upcoming musical Dogfight on Feb. 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. Director D. Scott Robinson and Musical Directors Jill Stewart and Linda Parr are looking for a diverse group of seven men and four women, plus a small ensemble for this Off-Broadway hit from the award-winning creators of Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen and popular films La La Land and The Greatest Showman. • Storytelling Arts of Indiana and Indiana Landmarks commissioned the story, “The Oracle of Delphi – A Grand History of the Delphi Opera House,” for If These Walls Could Tell, an annual program sponsored by Frank and Katrina Basile. The original storytelling series, now in its seventh year, focuses on a historic place in Indiana and the people who built, lived in, worked at, patronized and restored the landmark. The performance takes place March 4 from 4-6 p.m., with a reception during intermission, in Cook Theater at Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Ave. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and are available online at www.storytellingarts.org or by calling 317-576-9848. • Report potholes by calling by calling 317-327-4622, visiting maps.indy.gov/RequestIndy/ or on their smartphone app. Complaining about them on Facebook won’t get them fixed.
• This year’s flu outbreak has been especially bad. All hospitals in the area have imposed temporary visitor restrictions that will not allow visitors with flu-like illness, fever, or cough past the public areas. No visitors under 18 will be permitted, and only immediate family or partners are allowed to see patients. Health experts are taking this flu season very seriously, as the state’s health agency reported 50 deaths as a result of this illness as of Jan. 6. Five deaths in Marion County are attributable to the flu this year.
