Applause! Nov. 24-30

• The Poets Laureate of Lawrence reading will take place Nov. 28 from 7-9 p.m. at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. This month’s featured poet is Alessandra Lynch. For more information, visit www.artsforlawrence.org.
• Trash and recycling will operate on a sliding schedule due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Thursday trash will be picked up Friday, and Friday trash will be picked up Saturday.
• Storyteller Sally Perkins will be at the Lawrence Branch library, 7898 N. Hague Rd., on Dec. 5 at 10:15 a.m. with “The Charm, the Harm, and the Daring of Dillinger.” It is the story of an Indiana boy who received a world-class criminal education and went on to infamy. Refreshments will be served.
• Santa Under the Stars will be held Dec. 1 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Community Life Center, 10612 E. Washington St. Enjoy a delicious dinner, visit with Santa, sing some carols, make a craft, visit our vendors, all while helping those in need. All proceeds go to buy toys for Indianapolis families to support the rtv6 Toy Drive. Admission is $7 for adults, $2 for kids, and kids under 5 are free. There will also be vendors, a raffle with great prizes, and activities for the kids.
• Another holiday tradition is the Annual Christmas Walk in New Palestine on Dec. 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The 2017 Christmas Walk begins and ends at our festive Town Hall, 42 E. Main St.. There will be Christmas music, pictures with Santa and more. Every “Christmas Stop” will have a special treat for you to fill your belly or fill your Santa Bag. Christmas Walk Cards and an adventure like none other are only $5 per person. • Always look forward to Cumberland’s Weihnachtsmarkt, which will be held Dec. 2 from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. at 11501 E. Washington St. This year will have a great musical line-up, including the Flying Toasters at 7 p.m. Anita Hall from 3-5 p.m. and much more. There will also be a horse drawn carriage giving rides through town. Admission is free.
• Local animal shelters are at capacity, and many dogs and cats really need to find fur-ever families ASAP. If you’ve been thinking about adopting a pet, now is the time. Through December 31st Indianapolis Animal Care Services will have a “Pay it Forward for the Holidays” promotions running. Bring in a donation from their Wishlist valued at $15 or more and the adoption fee will be waived. The Wishlist includes Fancy Feast Classic Pate, canned cat and dog food, cat litter, Nylabones, Kogs, Peanut Butter, brooms, and hand sanitizer. The shelter is located at 2600 S.
