HOMECROFT — The Southport Police Department and the City of Indianapolis mourned the tragic loss of Lieutenant Aaron Allan who was killed in the line of duty after he was shot while trying to help at the scene of a car accident July 27. Lt. Aaron Allan with the Southport Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of South Madison and Maynard avenues in reference to a crash with entrapment. A Homecroft police officer also responded.
As Lt. Allan approached the inverted vehicle to assist, shots were fired by one of the vehicle’s occupants. Lt. Allan was struck by gunfire 14 times. EMS personnel responded and transported Lt. Allan to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. Despite the best life-saving efforts of medical professionals at Eskenazi Hospital Lt. Allan was tragically pronounced dead.
The Homecroft police officer and an off-duty Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy, who had stopped to help, returned fire striking one of the individuals. Both people inside the car were taken to Eskenazi Hospital, one for injuries sustained from being shot, and the other from injuries believe sustained during the crash. Detectives with IMPD arrested 28 year old, Jason Brown on suspicion of murder in the shooting and killing of Lt. Aaron Allan.
Lt. Allan (38) has nearly 6-years of service with the Southport Police Department and over 20 years of law enforcement experience. He leaves behind a wife and young child.
Lt. Allan’s funer will be held Aug. 5 at 11 a.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The public is invited to attend.
