INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Public Schools announced its 2018 Teacher of the Year, Kathleen Rauth. Ms. Rauth is a Media Specialist at Center for Inquiry 27 and Center for Inquiry 2. She joined Team IPS in July 2014 and has been an educator for over 30 years in more than three states.
“At the Center for Inquiry school, our media center is titled “The Hub” because Ms. Rauth and her written/taught curriculum are the central foundation of all classroom and lifelong learning,” said Center for Inquiry 27 Principal Brandi Herbert.
When she’s not working, Kathleen is extensively involved in the community around her. She volunteers for several state professional organizations including the Middle Grade Selection Committee where she keeps up with recently released literature. She also helped create an evening book group that invites fathers and other significant males to read together and provide real-life role models to young readers.
Rauth currently serves on the IPS diversity cadre and is cultivating increased awareness and efforts to encourage all classroom and school libraries to expand and offer more culturally diverse reading experiences.
To select the district’s top teacher, each IPS principal was invited to nominate their building’s top teacher for consideration. The selection committee, made up of a group of their peers, reviewed each nominee’s portfolio, including their teaching philosophy, professional accomplishments and instructional practices.
