Applause!: June 9-15

• Arsenal Technical High School (TECH) is having Alumni Day, Saturday, June 10th. Gates open at 8 a.m. The Cafeteria will be open with Tech merchandise to buy and the campus will be open for self-guided tours. The Alumni Program is at 10 a.m. in the Auditorium. • The Otterbein Neighborhood Association will have its neighborhood meeting June 15 at 7 p.m. at Otterbein Church, 5009 E. 21st St. A Mosquito Control officer will be on hand to answer questions, and there will be many updates on the neighborhood. The neighborhood is bounded by Emerson to the east, Sherman to the west, 21st to the north, and 16th to the south. All are welcome.
• Serve Indiana recently awarded the Center for Interfaith Cooperation to create a Day of Service project for the community in collaboration with the Burmese American Community Institute, Inc., Indy Urban Acres, and the Immigrant and Refugee Service Corps this summer. The goal of the day is to help fulfill the mission of Indy Urban Acres of ending hunger in Indianapolis through outdoor gardening. The day will also consist of facilitated activities, a poster contest on civic engagement and a presentations on healthy eating and nutrition education. Join them on June 20 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Indy Urban Acres,7700 E. 21st St.
• Congratulations to Stacie Griner Kleeman, who was nominated for Teacher of the Year in Washington Township Schools. Kleeman is an eastsider who attended Holy Spirit and Warren Central, and currently teaches 7th grade at Westlane.
• The manager of the Linwood Square Kroger has committed to attend the Grace Tuxedo Neighborhood Association meeting June 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Tuxedo Park Baptist Church, 29 N .Grant. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting. Given the very positive changes at the Kroger, this would be a great time to encourage the progress being made at that location.
• Spades Park Library, 1801 Nowland Ave., will be serving lunches to children Mon.-Fri. from noon-1 p.m. On Tuesdays, the library hosts Animal Chats at 1 p.m. and on Wednesday at 1 p.m. there will be Summer Movies.
• Tire Recycle Day is June 17 and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can drop off old tires at the Marion County Mosquito Control facility, 4001 E. 21st St, Mosquitoes breed water captured in old tires — help the city help us in keeping the little bloodsuckers under control.
• The Auxiliary to Community Hospital East will sponsor a “Collective Goods” sale on Wed., June 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Thurs., June 15, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the breezeway near the main lobby.  Quality books and gifts will be available at up to 70 percent off the retail price.
