INDIANAPOLIS — Footlite Musicals concludes its 2016-2017 season with Dreamgirls every weekend May 5-21. Indianapolis’ oldest continuing community theatre presents its productions at its home, the Hedback Community Theater, 1847 N. Alabama St. Curtain time for its Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances is 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees have a 2:30 p.m. curtain.
Dreamgirls tells of the triumphs and tribulations that come with fame and fortune. A young female singing trio from Chicago gets their big break at an amateur competition and thus begins the heartbreaks of showbiz, love and music when they all collide in this 1981 six-time Tony Award winning musical loosely based on the Supremes.
This dynamic production includes such hits as “One Night Only,” “I’m Changing” and “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.” This Footlite premiere, originally directed and choreographed on Broadway by Michael Bennett, has a book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger
Directed by Damon Clevenger, Footlite’s production stars Kathryn Council as Deena Jones, Rayanna Bibbs as Effie Melody White, Tiffany Gilliam as Lorrell Robinson, Vanessa Webb as Michelle Morris, Ollice Nickson as Curtis Taylor, Jr., Tyler Futrell as C.C. White and Brenton Anderson as Jimmy Early.
Individual admission prices for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances are $23 for adults and $15 for youth 17 and younger. The Thursday and first Sunday performances are $10 for all seats. Tickets may be purchased online at www.footlite.org or by phone at (800) 838-3006.
