• It’s almost May, and that means the Indy 500 Film Festival at the Irvington Branch Library is back on. Patrons can relive the magical moments in the history of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tues., May 9 and Tues., May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Irvington Branch, 5625 E. Washington St. with a series of short films about the race. This year’s festival salutes the 40th anniversary of legendary driver A.J. Foyt’s fourth Indy 500 win in 1977. • There may still be space available for a walking or bike tour in Irvington May 18, with 90-minute timed entry tours start every 15 minutes beginning at 5:30 p.m.; the last tour departs at 6:45 p.m. Indiana Landmarks is hosting, but the locals will present information about the meandering streets and unique story of Irvington. You must buy a ticket in advance for one of the six start times. Walking tour tickets cost $10 per person, $8 for Indiana Landmarks members; kids under 5 are free. • There will be a Community Shredding and Electronics Recycling Day on April 29 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Lawrence Police Dept. at 9001 E. 59th St. A $5 per shredding box donation is requested to benefit Crime Stoppers. Recycling personal electronics and computers are free, courtesy of Technology Recyclers. There will be a $10 fee for all TV/Computer monitors due to their materials. This will be a DEA pharmaceutical drug take back event as well; no needles or sharps permitted.
• Help out the Irvington Historical Society by dining at the Legend on May 2 from 4:30-9:00 p.m. A portion of your purchase will benefit the IHS. Reservations are recommended for parties greater than 4. Call (317) 536-2028.
• IMPD East District will hold its very popular Coffee With a Cop program May 4 from 9-11 a.m. at the Monon Coffee Company, 2442 Central Ave. This is a great opportunity to get to know our police officers, share information, and thank them for their hard work.
• Laughter Yoga will be held April 27 from 7-8 p.m. at the Hermitage at 3650 E. 46th St. It is the union of yogic breathing and laughter exercise. Donation accepted for the Hermitage.
• Check out the April Show on April 28 from 7 p.m. to midnight at 322 N. Arsenal Ave. This event showcases artists who have overcome daunting obstacles and turns a home into an art gallery for one night only for a party you don’t want to miss. The April Show is in its 20th and final year.
