CUMBERLAND — The Town of Cumberland offers a safe place to meet to buy or sell items via online lists and social media at its Town Hall parking lot, located at 11501 E. Washington St.
The well-lit parking lot provides a safer alternative than commercial parking lots where people go. After a series of high-profile robberies that started with criminals luring individuals to a meeting place on the pretext of buying items, safe zones in well-lit and highly patrolled areas are being created throughout the city.
Police encourage individuals buying or selling items on social media or lists to meet in public places with video surveillance and good lighting, and to avoid night-time transactions. Always let others know where you are going, and at what time. If possible, bring a friend or family member with you.
