• The Auxiliary to Community Hospital East will sponsor a jewelry sale by REG & COMPANY on Thurs., Feb. 2 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fri., Feb. 3 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will be held in the breezeway near the main lobby. • The Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, recognized the City of Indianapolis’ ‘ProjectComport’ as part of the 100 programs named as Semifinalists in this year’s Innovations in American Government Awards competition. ProjectComport will compete to be named a Finalist in the competition and have the chance to be awarded the $100,000 grand prize in Cambridge this spring. ProjectComport is the result of a partnership between the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Citizens Police Complaint Office, and Code for America to bring an open data portal for public safety to Indianapolis.
• Some of the city’s best chefs go head-to-head to find out whose soup reigns supreme at this year’s Second Helpings Souper Bowls Sat., Jan. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Center, 1121 Southeastern Ave. Just a few of the participants in this year’s competition include chefs from The Alexander, Bluebeart, Duos, R2GO, Tinker Street, Salt, and Second Helpings. Ticket are only $10 available online at www.secondhelpings.org/souper-bowls-tickets-2017/, or RSVP via Facebook. VIP tickets are also available. Proceeds go to support Second Helping’s mission of food rescue.
• The Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission hearing about the Coal Yard redevelopment in Irvington will be held Feb. 1 at 5:30 at the City-County Building, Assembly Room. The Coal Yard Lofts on Bonna Ave. proposal will go before the commission for final approval. On Jan. 10, developers brought revised plans to a public meeting about the project. • FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic has been awarded a $50,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to support spay and neuter services for owned cats in high-need zip codes.The initiative will provide spay/neuter services at a reduced fee of $20 for the owner. Area cat owners residing in the following zip codes are eligible for the program: 46201, 46203, 46205, 46218, 46219, 46221, 46226, 46227, or 46241. FACE anticipates serving 1,500 owned cats through this initiative. The reduced fees will be available until funding is exhausted. Appointments can be made by phone at (317) 638-3223.
