• Congratulations to New Year babies! Community Hospital East reports that the first Community Health baby was born shortly after 6 a.m. — a little boy named D.J. Eans. Over at Franciscan Health Indianapolis, a little girl, Kennedy Aberdeen Long was born at 12:27 a.m.
• On Jan. 2, the city of Indianapolis opened the Albert G. & Sara I. Reuben Engagement Center, a new agency under the City of Indianapolis-Office of Public Health and Safety. The facility will work to help those in our community experiencing mental health crisis and addiction. The center is located at 746 E. Market St.
• If one of your resolutions this year is to read more, then Bookmamas can help keep you on track. Their monthly book club reads and discusses a new book every month. The January book is The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict (which can be ordered via Bookmamas’ Web site, www.bookmamas.com). The discussion will be Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.

• Looking for something to do on Sundays? New Day Meadery will be holding a “Sunday School” every Sunday on a different topic or skill. On Jan. 8 from 2:00-3:30 p.m., you can jam out with Susan in the private Apiary Room, 1102 Prospect St. in Fountain Square. For $20 per student you’ll learn how to make your own homemade jam from start to finish, walk away with your own jar and receive a sweet booklet made by Susan. • Ash & Elm Cider Co. is offering Small Batch Ciderdays, where they tap limited release ciders. This Saturday. Jan. 7 at 2 p.m., they will tap their take on English Scrumpy. The tasting room and cidery is located at 2104 E. Washington St.
• Families United will be offering conversations to help strengthen your family on two dates: Jan. 9 and Jan. 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at East Tenth United Methodist Church, 2327 E. 10th St. The meetings will have a free family meal and free child care with homework help. • NYSCA City Wide Basketball Clinic will be held Jan. 14 from 2-4 p.m. at Christian Park, 4200 English Ave. This is a certification for coaches in the City Wide Basketball League. Register online at http://www.indy.gov/ and visiting the Indy Parks home page. Registration is free.
• The deadline for dropping off your Christmas tree at Broad Ripple, Ellenberger, Garfield, or Perry parks is Jan. 31. Please remove all tinsel, ornaments, etc. from trees before dumping them.
