Talking to Jan Deferbrache at Gaia Works is always an inspiration. It is rare to find someone so focused and determined to make a positive change in the community! Dropping off food donations for the pantry on Dec. 10 to the Magic Candle, Jan was very grateful for all the donations that have been coming in for the kids of Coburn Place, the food for the pantry, and the many people who “shopped Irvington” on Dec. 9 and were continuing to “Shop Small” this holiday season. Supporting local businesses like the Magic Candle and other independent shops helps make our community even stronger.
The needs this year are for toys and stocking stuffers for over 50 children ages newborn-17, stocking stuffers for 35 moms at Coburn Place. In addition, they would like to provide wrapped candies for the kid’s stockings, and donations of apples and oranges for them (needed closer to the holiday). If you need a more specific list, visit Gaia Work’s Facebook page or their Web site, www.gaiaworksinc.org
Jan is still collecting food for seniors and needy families in the area. Donations of grocery store gift cards are also appreciated, so residents can buy their own fresh produce and meat. Drop off frozen items at the Magic Candle, 203 S. Audubon Rd. during business hours.
We are delighted to be a drop-off point for Gaia Works again this year. We will be happy to take your donations of canned food, toys, stocking stuffers, etc. Mon.-Fri. 9-5.
