INDIANAPOLIS – The Monon 16 neighborhood in Indianapolis will soon have a unique vision for its future thanks to a new crowdfunding campaign led by the Harrison Center for the Arts. The campaign is being offered using the crowdfunding platform Patronicity through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s (IHCDA) CreatINg Places initiative.
The funds raised during the campaign will allow the Harrison Center for the Arts to fuel neighborhood and commercial revitalization through the use of arts and theater. Local actors and set designers will collaborate with three schools, multiple artists, and community stakeholders to envision the Monon 16 neighborhood the way it could be using “pre-enactment” instead of “re-enactment.” In this area of the city, 32.7 percent of residents live below the poverty line and 33 percent of properties are vacant. Pre-enactment will target vacant storefronts and abandoned lots on 3 blocks of 16th Street which will be re-envisioned as vibrant, healthy community assets.
If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $50,000 by February 15th, 2017 the Pre-Enactment Theater project will win a matching grant with funds made possible by CreatINg Places, a program of IHCDA.
The CreatINg Places program is available to projects located in Indiana communities or neighborhoods which contain a traditional downtown or traditional neighborhood commercial node. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.
