The Warren Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library is excited to share its newly-renovated facility with the east side. From its opening in 1974, Warren has been the place to come for reading, computers, job searching, programming, and help from our dedicated staff. As our community’s needs grew and changed, we did our best to adapt, but it was obvious the library needed to be updated for the 21st century.
Much time was spent in discussion with architects and our entire community to figure out everyone’s priorities. Topping the list were more computers, more places to use personal computers, an entrance near the parking lot, a drive-up book drop, a quiet area, and areas for children and teens. We were able to provide all of these and create a spacious and colorful library that should serve patrons well for years to come. I particularly love our new children’s area with bright colors, kid-sized seating and computers, and a bright green story frog.
It wasn’t an easy process for the public or branch staff, operating with half of our computers, a small fraction of our books, and a reduced program schedule. With ten months of construction, four closings, and cramped spaces, I was impressed that nearly everyone cheerfully looked forward to future results instead of bemoaning temporary inconveniences. We hope you enjoy our improvements as much as we love bringing them to you.
The public is invited to the grand re-opening Open House of the Warren Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library on Sat., Dec. 10 from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Warren Branch, 9701 E. 21st Street. HCO Architects of Indianapolis completed the renovations for the branch, which includes a new children’s programming room, a marketplace for exhibits, a relocated community room, and many more enhancements and improvements.
