Applause!: Nov. 11-17

• Cumberland Arts Holiday Fashion Show will be held Fri., Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., hosted and presented by Cynthia’s Hallmark and Boutique, 1584 N. State St., Greenfield.  The $10 donation  at the door includes Appetizer Reception, special store coupons, door prizes and a free scarf (to keep or gift to someone else). The fashion show will feature fall, winter and holiday fashions along with unique gift items. All proceeds from this event will support the Aug. 19, 2017 Cumberland Arts Goes to Market. • From Sat., Nov. 26  to Wed., Dec. 7, Bookmamas will be hosting a Gingerbread House Contest. Everyone is welcome to enter.Gingerbread Houses must have a base of 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches or smaller. The front of the house should be the 11 inches. Houses should be made of edible products. Entries  must be delivered to the store during store hours Sat., Nov. 26-Wed., Dec. 7. Judging will be Thurs., Dec. 8 and prizes will be awarded on Fri., Dec. 9 during the Merchants Holiday Open House from 5-9 p.m. For more information, contact Bookmamas at 9 S. • The Community Alliance of the Far Eastside will host a winter preparation forum on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. at the CAFE headquarters, 8902 E. 38th St. This is a forum to find out more information about EAP, Winter Assistance Funds, and lowering utility bills. The forum is free and open to the public.
• Paramount School of Excellence in the Brookside neighborhood  celebrated the opening of the school’s new middle school addition on Oct. 27. The expansion adds ten classrooms and a second school cafeteria to serve Paramount’s 200 middle school students. The K-8 grade school offers public tours every Friday at 10 a.m. and additional information can be found on the Paramount website at www.paramountindy.org.
• The Indianapolis jazz community will celebrate the city’s rich jazz history at the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation’s annual Jazz Legacy Showcase on Thurs., Nov. 17 at Indiana Landmarks Center (1201 Central Ave.) at 7 p.m. To honor the occasion and the city’s continuing contributions to jazz, Indianapolis Mayor Joseph Hogsett has proclaimed the day as “Jazz Legacy Day” in the city. • At the last First Friday (Nov. 4), we happened to stumble upon the latest addition to the explosive craft adult beverage scene on the east side, Centerpoint Brewing Company, in the Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 Brookside Ave. The owners have created a beautiful space and are brewing some great beers.
