• Columbus Day will be observed Oct. 10, meaning most federal, state, and local offices will be closed for business. There will be no mail delivery on Mon., Oct. 10 as well.
• Riley Days in Greenfield will be held Oct. 6-9. There will be a living history camp on the Hancock County Fairgrounds, 620 N. Apple St. throughout, plus a Fun Zone for kids, lots of contests and games, vendors, and more going on to celebrate Greenfield’s native son, poet James Whitcomb Riley. • All Indianapolis Public Library locations will be closed on Mon., Oct. 10 for the annual Library Staff In-Service Day. While the Library is closed, patrons may continue to review the Library’s catalog of materials, renew or place holds on items by visiting the Web branch at www.indypl.org. They may also renew materials by telephone by calling 317-269-5222. All locations will reopen at their regular times on Tuesday, October 11.
• Tie Dye Grill celebrated its 10th Anniversary on Oct. 3. The business has been going strong, attracting lots of favorable attention from people who love a good tenderloin and unique atmosphere. • The Indianapolis Mega Adoption Event will be held Oct. 8 and 9 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, South Pavilion from noon-6 p.m. each day. This is your chance to adopt a homeless animal from many rescue organizations and shelters. The event is free, parking is $5; adoption fees are just $30. All animals are fixed and microchipped before adoption. The Fairgrounds are at 1202 E. 38th St.
• The First Friday Art Tour will be on Oct. 7 from 6-9 p.m. at various sites throughout the city. The Stutz Art Gallery, 212 W. 10th St., B110 will open the “Secret Doors” exhibit — aa kid-friendly art show with art hung at a child’s eye level. It will fun and interactive, giving youngsters their own perspective on fine art. Check out Circle City Industrial Complex at 1125 E. Brookside Ave., for an eclectic mix of contemporary artists, the Art Bank at 811 Mass Ave., iMOCA in Fountain Square at 1043 Virginia Ave., and ArtMix at the Harrison Center, 1505 N. Delaware for a special exhibit celebrating the work of Urban Artisans. All events are free.

• On Sept. 29, volunteerss from the Lilly Service Day came to Irvington and put up decorations for Breast Cancer Awareness Month along Washington St. and Johnson Ave. They will return on Oct. 14 to remove them. Great job!
