INDIANAPOLIS — Representatives from Chemtura Corporation, the owner of the industrial property just north of Brookside park and east of Olney, will be giving an update of its activities in the area on Sept. 21 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Brookside Park Family Center, 3500 Brookside Parkway S. Dr. (Brookside Park). Chemtura Corporation invites residents to attend and learn more about what Chemtura has been doing to date to clean up the brownfield and what can be expected over the next few months. Chemtura representatives will give a presentation, and will be available afterward to answer questions. A representative from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the department that acts as a watchdog to ensure the necessary steps are taken to protect the environment, will also be attending the meeting and available to talk to residents after the presentation.
Chemtura operated for many years in Ruby Park, but ceased operations in 2008. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management tested the property and found the site’s soil is contaminated with lead and other compounds. Redevelopment plans have been on hold until a clean-up of the property could take place.
