• The Poets Laureate of Lawrence will feature Frederick Michaels at the Sept. 27 meeting from 6:30 – 8:30 at The Theater at the Fort on Indy’s east side, 8920 Otis Avenue, Lawrence (www.lawrenceartcenter.net). Michaels is a well-known local poet who has been published nationally. Check it out!

• Join the discussion about gentrification on Sept. 25, when there will be a talk about “Equitable Development vs. Economic Development.” The meeting will be held from 3-5 p.m. at the Kheprew Institute (3549 Boulevard Place). Interested attendees should RSVP in advance on kheprw.org/gentrify.
• Reconnecting to Our Waterways (ROW) is organizing its first urban BioBlitz on Sept. 16 and 17 for an intensive 24-hour inventory of plants and animals living in the Indianapolis area. The primary aim of a BioBlitz is to gather baseline information. The focus will be on stretches of Fall Creek, Pogue’s Run and Pleasant Run. Scientist teams will be leading the inventories. The public is invited to attend a gathering at the Barth Avenue Destination and the Pleasant Curve Amphitheater along Pleasant Run (1800 Barth Ave., intersection of East Pleasant Run Parkway and Barth Ave.) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 16. There will be displays, hands-on activities and a movie the whole family will enjoy on a giant blow-up screen. Residents can come learn about Indy’s plant and animal neighbors and how they can help improve the local environment for every living thing in the city. When the scientist-led collection efforts end on Sept. 17, they will be hosting community members at Garfield Park at 4:00 p.m. to share results, findings and observations about their experience.

This will provide for complete rehabilitation of The Mayfair and offer the community a family-friendly dining opportunity and microbrewery.
